‘Ark: Survival Evolved’ News & Update: Studio Wildcard Cancels Free Version of 'Survival of the Fittest'; Release on Xbox One & PS4 Now Uncertain

"Ark: Survival Evolved" was well-received when it was first launched on Windows PC in June 2015. It was soon released on Xbox the following December and its popularity soared even higher as the number of players just keeps on growing everyday. It now boasts of 5.5 million players worldwide.

With the success of the game, the developers released one of the free game modes called "Survival of the Fittest" in March 2016. This competitive-battle mod brought in huge number of players to "Ark:Survival Evolved" so Studio Wildcard planned to release it on PS4 and Xbox.

However, in the latest development, it was revealed that the free PC version of "Survival of the Fittest" is being discontinued while the PS4 and Xbox release has been postponed. Although this is the case, fans of the game may still continue to play it because Studio Wildcard will include it as part of the "Ark: Survival Evolved" complete game package.

"As we look to the future of SotF, we came to a decision: Survival of the Fittest will be brought back internally as part of the ARK: Survival Evolved package," the Wildcard team explained on Steam Community Forum.

It was further said that gamers who played "Survival of the Fittest" can continue playing it without the need to own the "Ark: Survival Evolved" because it will still exist as its own application. Thus, for players who have not started playing the game yet, they will have to buy the Survival Evolved to play SoTF.

Meanwhile, "Ark: Survival Evolved" is available on Early Access at this time. Before this year ends, Studio Wildcard is expected to release the full game package on PS4, PC, Xbox One, Linux and OS X.
