'Flash' & 'Supergirl' Air Date, Spoilers, News & Update: Is Joss Whedon Directing the Musical Crossover Episode?

"The Flash" star Grant Gustin may have his wish come true, as Joss Whedon is rumored to be on board to direct the upcoming two-part "Flash" and "Supergirl" crossover episode. Back in July, the actor expressed his enthusiasm about Whedon during the SDCC, where he was asked which director he would want to work with on The CW show, given the chance at having a guest director.

According to Comic Book Resources, Gustin said that he would enjoy having Whedon on board because the director loves the show and has seen every episode. Whedon and Gustin may soon work together, as IGN reports that a new rumor about Whedon directing the recently-announced musical crossover episode has surfaced via That Hashtag Show.

While there's no official word on Whedon coming on board to direct the musical crossover episode of "Flash" and "Supergirl," it's not difficult to imagine the 52-year old creator of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" at the helm. For one, he has worked with superheroes before, namely "The Avengers" in 2012 and "Avengers: Age of Ultron" just last year. He also has experience directing musical episodes, such as that of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," which debuted in 2001.

While 2017 may seem like a long way from now (the musical crossover episode is reported to air next year), it seems like enough time for Whedon to decide whether or not to join in the fun. Collider reports that if the rumors of the Music Meister playing an antagonistic role in the upcoming season of "Flash" and "Supergirl" are true, it would be fitting for Whedon to take the reins and helm the two episodes.

Note that these are all rumors as of press time, so make sure to check back for more latest updates on your favorite CW shows. Meanwhile, comment below if you want Whedon to direct the musical crossover episode of "Flash" and "Supergirl," both of which are returning to TV this fall.
