Popular torrent site Kickass Torrents (KAT) may have already made a secret comeback and is probably using another domain. If these rumors are true, then the arrest of founder Artem Vaulin has had no effects on the business at all. Piracy is far from dead and KAT-related domains are still active.However, going by the situation, it seems KAT is dead.
When Vaulin was arrested in Poland and United States took down the popular file sharing site, followers of KAT freaked out. However, Vaulin assured followers that even if KAT stays shut, someone else would keep the game running. He added that he is not worried about the present situation as if it's not KAT, it would be someone else.
Vaulin is facing charges of copyright infringement and other piracy violations. Despise the death of the domain and arrest of its founder, numerous other domains, all KAT-related entities, that are still active. However, most of them do not contain useful torrents. That does not mean they won't become useful in future.
Another leading torrent site The Pirate Bay (TPB) is active, much to the delight of torrent users. TPB was the most-popular torrent website, until KAT took over the numero uno position in 2015. Another popular site that hasn't yet faced the axe is Extratorrents.
TPB is considered the godfather of torrent sites ahs once again become the top choice whereas Extratorrents is also experience a surge in traffic. As per Torrent Freak, Extratorrents' signups increased by 200 percent and traffic by 300 percent. Other sites experiencing a surge in traffic are TorrentHound, Torrentdownloads, RBG, YTS.ag and isoHunt.to.
Lawyer Ira Rothken, who is representing Vaulin, believes that the KAT founder has a strong case against the U.S. Government and he hopes to release the Ukranian from the Warsaw jail soon.
As the charges on Vaulin are spitefully similar to that of Megaupload and Kim Dotcom, it is a no-brainer that Vaulin decided to retain Rothken to fight his case. Rothken also handles the defense of these two companies, Torrent Freak reported.
