The last time that BIGBANG has released a new song was back in August 2015. YG Entertainment's new girl group Black Pink just released their debut album in August of this year. While BIGBANG has remained quiet in the music scene since then, Black Pink is dominating the charts after releasing their music videos for "Boombayah" and "Whistle." After the success of both bands in two-year time, nothing was heard music-wise about BIGBANG and Black Pink until now.
After all these years, BIGBANG is still considered as the kings of K-pop. While all other K-pop bands have disbanded after the 5-year mark, BIGBANG has proven that there is no such thing as a K-pop band curse. BIGBANG consists of five members: G-Dragon (Kwon Ji-yong), T.O.P. (Choi Seung-hyun), Taeyang (Dong Young-bae), Daesung (Kang Dae-sung), and Seungri (Lee Seung-hyun).
The group made K-pop history as they marked their 10th year anniversary in August of this year. G-Dragon, T.O.P., Taeyang, Daesung, and Seungri are not limiting their brand as a group, but they are actors, models, hosts, and businessmen as well. This is the reason why BIGBANG has not launched a new song or album for over a year because they are busy with their individual projects.
Black Pink on the other hand debuted in early August 2016. The girl group became an instant hit as their songs and style reminded fans of the other popular YG Entertainment girl group, 2NE1. After Minzy left 2NE1, many were heartbroken. But after the music videos of Black Pink was released, fans believed that they are the next best thing to 2NE1.
Soompi reports that YG Entertainment heavy hitters BIGBANG and Black Pink will release new songs along with brother-sister duo Akdong Musician. Although YG Entertainment did not reveal if these three bands will team up for a comeback. YG Entertainment is known to collaborate their artists so BIGBANG and Black Pink releasing a song together is definitely not impossible.
