Black Pink 2016 News & Update: New Korean Group Replacing 2NE1? Minzy's Departure Causes Drama

Black Pink may have only been launched last August 8, but the South Korean girl group, formed by YG Entertainment, are already dominating the charts. While Black Pink's launch was very successful, another popular girl group, 2NE1, is losing their shine. Could it be that Black Pink is the new 2NE1?

Being in the same company, it's not unusual that people will compare Black Pink and 2NE1. Although the group's experiences are definitely far to compare, fans are seeing the potential in Black Pink to be the next best thing. Just like 2NE1, Black Pink is also consist of four members, Jisoo, Jennie, Rose, and Lisa. But while 2NE1's CL, Bom, Dara, and MInzy have already been in the business for over five years, Black Pink's Jisoo, Jenne, Rose, and Lisa can still be considered as fresh artists.

2NE1 was launched back in 2009 and they have become one of the most successful girl groups in K-pop history. But after Minzy left the group on April, CL, Bom, and Dara were left with no choice but to focus on their individual careers first while YG Entertainment was trying to sort things out. YG Entertainment released a statement and revealed that the 22-year-old singer and dancer would not be continuing on with the famous K-pop girl group after declining to renew her contract with the agency.

The other members of 2NE1, CL, Bom and Dara, will remain with the label and have a new project in the works, but YG Entertainment noted that 2NE1 will not add a new member. "With May 5th, 2016 marking the date for each 2NE1 members to renew their contracts, YG tried to convince each member through individual meetings since January in hopes of contract renewals. However, Minzy did not wish to continue in the group 2NE1," YG revealed.
