'Sherlock' Season 4 Air Date, Spoilers, News & Update: Benedict Cumberbatch Slams Cancellation Rumors; Will There Be Season 5?

There are swirling rumors that the coming "Sherlock" Season 4 will be the swan song of the favorite TV series based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's detective stories, "Sherlock Holmes." Of course, this saddens all the fans, but Benedict Cumberbatch cleared that his previous statement was "taken out of context."

In an interview with USA Today -- while promoting his movie, "Doctor Strange," in Hong Kong -- Benedict Cumberbatch ended the rumors that "Sherlock" Season 4 will be the show's final installment. The 40-year-old star first said that the incoming chapter will be the "last for now" and some quickly deem it will be their final offer.

Benedict Cumberbatch confessed that they all love doing "Sherlock," but they are just too busy as of the moment. He went to explain that they are all doing other things and fans should see "Sherlock" Season 4 first to understand why "it's not going to happen again in the same regularity that it has been happening."

"But we'll see, we'll never say never and when it's right, and if it's right, we'll do more," Benedict Cumberbatch told the publication. He also cleared that he will never again announce anything to any magazine about their show and "Sherlock" Season 4 because of what happened. "It's not my responsibility to do that. That was a bit of irresponsible journalism."

However, before fans get excited for "Sherlock" Season 5, there is no renewal news yet and as Benedict Cumberbatch said, watch out first for "Sherlock" Season 4. According to Screen Rant, Moriarty is set to be back and it is definitely a must see why he survived or does he even died.

To recall, Moriarty was last seen suffering from hallucinations on a plane while leaving England and was located in the Victorian Era. He then woke up with a lot of revelations about Moriarty plot, but details about the evil plan were scarce. "Sherlock" Season 4 will return in early 2017 on BBC One and PBS.
