‘World of Warcraft’ Gameplay, News & Update: Blizzard Discusses Major Changes In Levelling; Two New Legion Patches Coming

Levelling in "World of Warcraft" is bound to go through some major changes in the near future. There were even rumors that Blizzard was contemplating of eliminating levelling in "World of Warcraft" completely.

Kotaku wrote that Ion Hazzikostas, "World of Warcraft" game director, said at BlizzCon 2016 that there were times when they have considered getting rid of levelling altogether in "World of Warcraft." However, they always ended up creating a new construct that was very similar to levels, but with a different name.

As a result, they continued levels in the MMORPG. Through the years, Blizzard has provided other alternative ways to advance in "World of Warcraft", aside from traditional levelling, such as Artifact Weapons, Keeps, Zones and Order Halls, among others.

One of the biggest changes involve the role of levelling in "World of Warcraft." Before, levelling heavily depended on abilities, but Blizzard observed that constantly upgrading ability bars was unsustainable in the long term.

Some characters would have so many separate abilities that made them too powerful and absurd at the same time. Blizzard decided to focus more on Zones in "World of Warcraft" to progress characters. Hazzikostas explained that although they offered more alternatives in "World of Warcraft," traditional levelling is still a useful benchmark for players to determine their progress as they draw nearer to the endgame.

This means that traditional levelling will remain an essential part of "World of Warcraft," despite the availability of other advancement approaches. Players can pace themselves better by using levelling with other aspects of the game.

Polygon reported that in the meantime, Blizzard provided more details about the two upcoming patches for "World of Warcraft: Legion." Hazzikostas mentioned that Argus will arrive as part of Patch 7.3.

Argus is another planet that functions as one of the major seats of power for the Burning Legion. Argus will be the climax to the "World of Warcraft" Legion expansion, where players will try to stop the massive demonic force for good.

The second coming update, Patch 7.1.5, is set to undergo live testing in November, and may fully release before the end of 2016. More updates and details on "World of Warcraft" are expected soon.
