‘Bone’ Release Date, News & Update: Kung Fu Panda Director Mark Osborne To Direct Animated Feature Film

"Kung Fu Panda" director Mark Orborne is in the development of adapting the comic book "Bone" into an animated feature film. The filmmakers have not announced any specific date for the movie's release.

Mark Osborne who is known for directing "Kung Fu Panda" and "The Little Prince," will write and produce the animated film adaptation of "Bone." He will be joined by Adam Kline, known for "Artemis Fowl" to co-write for this anticipated film.

"Bone" is about the Bone cousins, Phoney Bone, Smiley Bone and Fone Bone. The adventure of the trio started when Phoney's political campaign as mayor of Boneville became awry.  They run out of their hometown, ending up in a mysterious valley. Mark Osborne's challenge now is how this will be adapted into an enjoyable film to watch.

According to ComicBook, Warner Bros first acquired the rights to "Bone" way back in 2008. The plan to adapt it into a feature film was set up back in 2012 with P.J. Hogan to direct but later dropped the offer. Starting from scratch, Mark Osborne and Adam Kline accepted the challenge to complete the project.

Mark Osborne sees "Bone" as an opportunity to represent the readers who loved the comic series from the first day it was released. He said that creating this comic story into an animated storytelling will be an exciting experience. "Bone is very special and unconventional because it blends elements together that you don't necessarily expect - soft, little comic characters and epic high stakes fantasy adventure," he added.

In addition, Warner Bros plans to adapt Jeff Smith's "Bone" into a trilogy of animated film. However, there is no confirmation whether it will be made under traditional animation or if it will be CG-animated. It will be a question now for Mark Osborne and the entire team if they will stick to the original comic look of "Bone," Slash Film reported.

Mark Osborne is a two-time Academy Awards nominee for his "Kung Fu Panda" and recently with "The Little Prince." He was also known for stop-motion animated short "More," which was screened at over 150 film festivals worldwide. Meanwhile, Mark Bauch of Lin Pictures will also co-produce the animated feature film "Bone."
