Harley Quinn Spinoff Movie' Latest News & Update: DC New Movie Coming With 'Birds of Prey' Comics Characters

The Harley Quinn movie is moving forward and more details about the "Suicide Squad" spinoff have emerged. DC's "Birds of Prey" comics character is reported to appear in the spinoff movie.

After the box office hit of "Suicide Squad," fans learned lately in October that Margot Robbie had signed an exclusive, first-look deal with Warner Bros. The deal entails that she will be a leading character for a solo Harley Quinn movie project.

According to The Wrap, Christina Hodson will write the script for the Harley Quinn movie. Hodson is also working as a writer on "Bumblebee," the Transformers spinoff expected in 2018. She also penned the reboot of "The Fugitive" for Warner Bros.

The reporsts suggest that the Harley Quinn movie won't just focus on Harley. The film would possibly feature other female characters from DC comic's "Bird of Prey," such Katana, Poison Ivy, Circe and Catwoman. No official announcement as to who will be the female superhero that would be featured in the spinoff, but rumors said Katana has a higher chance to be featured in the film since she has been in the "Suicide Squad" movie with Harley.

Many fans are unfamiliar with "Birds of Prey." It is a special edition comic published by DC in 1996. Basically, the "Birds of Prey" is a team of superheroes led by Barbara Gordon and Dinah Lance. The members have fluctuated throughout the course of the comic releases, but the most consistent team members seem to be made up of Oracle, Black Canary, Lady Blackhawk and Huntress.

It was reported in September that Margot Robbie, who portrayed Harley, would also produce the Harley Quinn movie. The actress has also signed a deal with Warner that the studio will have the option to make projects with her production company, LuckyChap Entertainment.

Harley Quinn movie project would be the second female-led movie in the DCEU, following behind the "Wonder Woman" film. It is possible that the spinoff might be released on either October 5, 2018 or November 1, 2019.
