Five years have passed, there are now reports that "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" Sequel is will be in the works, but it is not based on the author's second book.

The following to Stieg's Larsson's novel series is "The Girl who Played with Fire," but "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" Sequel will be based on the fourth book. "The Girl in the Spider's Web" by David Lagercrantz was released in September 2015 after the death of original "The Millennium" series novelist in 2004.

The Independent reported that "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" Sequel's script will be penned by the "Peaky Blinders" creator Steven Knight. "With The 'Girl in the Spider's Web,' the girl [Lisbeth Salander] is really the central character. She's the whole thing. It's not really [Mikael] Blomkvist," he told Collider.

However, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" Sequel won't be starred by Rooney Mara or even by the "James Bond" actor Daniel Craig, but by the lead stars named Lion and Una. As the story jumps two books in total, the upcoming movie adaptation will be quite different and they have to build strong characters and critical thinking to give justice to its narrative.

Fede Alverez, on the other hand, is set to direct "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" Sequel. "I cannot tell you that much about the project other than yes - it's true, it's correct, I will be directing, and we're very excited about it," he told Digital Spy.

Alverez also confirmed that they are still in discussion about "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" Sequel. He even promised that they will be "actively bold" in forming the movie's story and put a touch of their own styles in it. As the film is still in its pre-production stage, the release date is not yet confirmed.
