‘Beauty And The Beast’ Release Date, News & Update: Luke Evans Teases Darker Gaston In Disney’s Live Action Movie

The upcoming live action remake "Beauty and the Beast" may be one of the highly anticipated re-telling of classic Disney animated films. With an antagonist that does not look as hideous as other villains, cast member Luke Evans teased that Gaston will be as dark as some of Disney's most evil characters.

"Beauty and the Beast," the animated movie is one of the beloved films from Disney's cartoon classics. Released in 1991, it gave children and kids-at-heart a different look at the Beast's world that included quirky yet lovable characters.

The Disney animated film also presented a glimpse at Belle's life and her admirer Gaston, who turned out to be the movie's main antagonist. Meanwhile, the trailer for the live action "Beauty and the Beast" already teased of the visual similarities between the animated character and the remake version.

Portrayed by "Dracula: Untold" star Evans, the upcoming movie's production team even used similar clothing styles and colors. However, the actor shared in an interview with Empire that his version of Gaston would be darker than the animated character. He stated, "He gets as dark as any Disney character could possibly get."

Moviegoers will also see a hint of Gaston's backstory in the live action version of "Beauty and the Beast." Described as an ex-soldier who always gets what he wants, Gaston hides his pompous attitude behind charismatic and comedic actions. Belle's reaction to Gaston's courtship will also mark the first time that he failed to secure something that he wanted, according to Evans.

In other news, the trailer for the live action "Beauty and the Beast" recently set a new record as the most viewed video in its first 24 hours, according to a Disney announcement obtained by Variety. Released on Nov. 14, the movie's teaser clip gained 127.6 million views, even beating the record previously set by "Fifty Shades Darker" and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" that posted 114 million views and 112 million views, respectively.

"Beauty and the Beast" will hit movie theaters on March 17, 2017. Watch the trailer below:
