There were several fanboy backlashes when director Ridley Scott released the sci-fi movie "Prometheus" in 2012. The backlash fueled doubts whether they will make the sequel or not. But now, it's long been official that the sequel "Alien: Covenant" got the green light and just released its latest poster with a Xenomorph coming out of the dark and captioned the word run.
Ridley Scott directed the first film of the saga "Alien" in 1979. He will direct "Alien: Covenant." He is also known for his other sci-fi move "Bladerunner" who stars Harrison Ford in 1983.
Michael Green who was the screenwriter for "Heroes" and "Green Lantern" originally drafted the script for "Alien: Covenant." According to Variety, Ridley Scott later brought in John Logan, who wrote the script for "Skyfall" and "Spectre" Bond movies.
The "Prometheus" sequel now carries the title "Alien: Covenant" after undergoing a number of title changes. Ridley Scott told HeyUGuys September last year he almost called the movie "Alien: Paradise Lost."
The Cheatsheet reported that the official synopsis of "Alien: Covenant" from Fox says that a crew of a colony ship "Covenant" was bound for a remote planet across the galaxy. They landed on what they thought was paradise but was a dark and dangerous planet and its only inhabitant was a synthetic named David.
Michael Fassbender will reprise his role as David the synthetic. He told The Irish Times that in "Alien: Covenant," David has an identical synthetic named Walter.
In an interview with Daily Mail on January this year, Ridley Scott spoke that actress Noomi Rapace won't be back to play the character Elizabeth Shaw but she's been seen on the set of "Alien: Covenant" in Australia this year. As to what her role is, it hasn't been disclosed.
Katherine Waterson has been brought into the "Alien: Covenant" set and will play the lead character Daniels which according to The Playlist will be Ellen Ripley's mother. Sigourney Weaver played Ellen Ripley in the original "Alien" film in 1979.
Director Ridley Scott said that there would be more than one "Prometheus" sequels after "Alien: Covenant" until it will eventually circulate back to "Alien" 1. He expresses his regret from stepping away from the "Alien" franchise and wanted to bring the beast back to the right direction starting with "Prometheus."
Michael Fassbender revealed on an interview with BBC Radio 2 that the alien creatures in "Alien: Covenant" will be called Neomorphs instead of the Xenomorph seen in the original "Alien" movie. Neomorphs grow in pods on trees. They spread their infection via spores and bursts out the hosts' backs or throats when they mature, quite different from the original Alien movie.
The film's release has been moved three months earlier. "Alien: Covenant" will be on the big screen May 19, 2017.
