Oculus Rift will start playing Xbox One games from the console with the use of a new app from Microsoft. This means that players no longer need to sit for hours in the living room to play Xbox One games, as Oculus Rift begins to provide them a virtual reality experience on a digital couch.
Starting Dec. 12, Oculus Rift will provide an option to stream the Xbox One games. Although this will not put players in their games, the new gaming experience will provide them a way of playing the games on a huge virtual screen.
Any games that run on the Xbox One console, such as "Halo 5: Guardians", "Forza Horizon 3" or even backward-compatible games on Xbox 360 are expected to run in the Oculus Rift, using as well the wireless Xbox One controller that is included to control the games. Furthermore, the Xbox One Streaming to Oculus Rift app is reportedly free to download on the Xbox One app store.
According to reports, this was made possible through Microsoft's partnership with Oculus VR. When Oculus Rift was launched in March for $600, it should be noted that the VR headset worked only with Windows 10 headsets, which also came with the same bundled Xbox One controller.
Meantime, Microsoft has just revealed the company's plans to bring VR to the updated Xbox One Scorpio, which is set to launch in late 2017. However, the tech giant did not mention if it will support Oculus Rift, Venture Beat reported.
Among the major setbacks for Oculus Rift, on the other hand, is the system requirements to run it. Based on reports, the Oculus Rift, which connects to PCs, needs an Intel Core i5 4590 processor or better, and either an AMD Radeon 290 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 graphics card.
