Android 7.1.1 Nougat Release Date, News & Update: Nexus, Pixel Are First Smartphones To Receive Update!
The developer previews for Android 7.1.1 Nougat will soon end as the official release of the new software is set for December 6. But, it will be only limited for now on some smartphone devices.
Google is working tirelessly to make sure that it will deliver its promise that Android 7.1.1 Nougat will be released in early December. However, the latest software update is limited only to some devices which includes the Nexus 6P and Pixel smartphones.
According to Vodafone, the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update will hit Huawei, the manufacturer of Nexus 6P, on December 6 starting 5:00 PM Australian time. Australia is 13-18 hours ahead of the United States, which is safe to assume that Nexus 6P owners in the U.S. may receive the update December 5.
The advisory indicates that the software is approximately 650MB which will be available for download via Firmware Over-The-Air or FOTA. The rollout of Android 7.1.1 Nougat will be progressive and will randomly select 10,000 users who will receive the FOTA.
An additional 10 percent of the pool will receive the FOTA of Android 7.1.1 Nougat and after 14 days it is expected that everyone already received the update. However, some users may need to check the update manually if their device did not receive the FOTA.
According to Android Central, Android 7.1.1 Nougat comes with the latest Android security patch. The FOTA update brings build NMF26F first to Google devices such as Nexus 6P and Pixel smartphones. Other OEMs may need to wait for the official release but may use it as a source for its own version of Android 7.1.1 Nougat.
Meanwhile, Android 7.1.1 Nougat contains features like app shortcut menus for Nexus 6P. It is also expected to launch new raise-to-wake and tap-to-wake features for Pixel smartphones. Rooted phones may be needed to download the update and manual flash it with their devices. Google will be providing links to where users can download the file and instructions on how to manually install it.
