Deadfall Adventures: Everything we know so far

Deadfall Adventures is an upcoming first person action adventure title currently in development under The Farm 51 - of Painkiller: Hell & Damnation - and published by Nordic Games. The game is said to be mashed with elements from action-adventure games with the main goal of the game being the player seizing any opportunity to become an adventurer, hunt for treasures, explore unknown regions of the world and, of course, rescue the damsel in distress from the clutches of enemies, both from within this earth and outside.

The game's story takes place in the year 1938, with players stepping into the boots of famous adventurer Allan Quartermain's great-grandson, James Lee Quatermain. James's aim is to escort a U.S. agent as they travel to Egypt, searching for "The Heart of Atlantis."

On the way, rival setups such as the Nazis and Russians also become interested in Quatermain's exploits along the way and are set to seek a chance to obtain this device for their own purposes. Other supernatural enemies such as mummies will also show up within the game as a part in the quest.

Although an uncomplicated man, James Quatermain has been described as being a misanthrope, and is dismissive of the occult and supernatural forces in play. Nonetheless, he is a strong character and believes in helping others. "But life has its ways of changing one's perspective. Quatermain soon finds himself part of a hunt across the globe - from the stormy deserts of Egypt to the icy depths of the Arctic and all the way to the steaming jungles of Guatemala."

Apart from Egypt being one of the main locations in the game, it has also been reported that other locations such as the Arctic will also play a major role. As far as the inclusion of Nazis is concerned, producer Artur Falkowski revealed to Gamingbolt that "The Nazis were very much interested in looking for ancient secrets, like for example the mythical land of Thule, one of the famous lost worlds. It corresponded well with our story."

"Apart from that, Nazis as the bad guys are a common motive in the genre, so they just needed to be here. They aren't the main villains in the story though."

Deadfall Adventures has been developed using Unreal Engine 3. The Unreal 3 has been most helpful in designing the game's overall environments with a lush and detailed feel.

Falkowski has stressed the fact that the team has worked hard on the game's story from the start. And in the process, they have also researched popular films that can relate to the game. It was reported that the team took assistance from the movie industry to add that extra movie-like feel to the game.

"We created the whole mythology based on popular legends, myths and beliefs. Then we added some hilarious dialogues, because in this kind of tale the humor is a must. Our story is rich but not too complicated. We mixed the fantastic elements with historical events such as the sea travels to the New World from the 16th century, organized by the King of Spain. Also as we mentioned, the hero is a great-grandson of a famous explorer, Allan Quatermain," Falkowski added.

Additionally the game features dual wielding weapons, which is also a welcome sight for a number of players looking to go back to the classic days. On that topic, Falkowski stated that the idea came to the team naturally.

"We were looking for something which could emphasize the feeling of taking part in a crazy pulp adventure movie. One day someone from the team suggested: let's add dual wielding! It isn't realistic, but could give you lots of fun."

Moreover, there are about 30 weapons to choose from in the game. These include pistols, rifles, automatic pistols, shotguns, and assault rifles. There will be some classic weapons from the WWII era, alongside some yet to be revealed prototypes and rare weapons. There is a certain treasure system in the game that will allow players to upgrade the protagonist's stats and his weapons.

The game will also feature a survival co-op mode that will allow for instant action play. Deadfall Adventures, originally set to release on June 30, but later changed to Sept. 27th 2013, is arriving for Xbox 360 and PC.
