'Halo Wars 2' Release Date, News & Updates: Latest Trailer Introduces New Main Antagonist Atriox; Sequel Comparible to 'Starcraft 2?'

"Halo Wars 2" was first revealed back in 2015 during the Gamescom expo and more information have been unveiled about its story in the Game Awards 2016. The latest trailer that was unveiled during the event highlights the new main antagonist in the upcoming game.

The promotional clip that was recently released for "Halo Wars 2" introduces the new villain named Atriox. It was reported in Polygon that the antagonist was a Brute who was a slave under the Covenant. However, Atriox was able to inspire individuals who were also being enslaved by the Covenant thus creating force of mercenaries called the Banished. They were able to escape from the clutches of the Covenant and their rebellion is still continuing.

This is where the United Nation Space Command (UNSC) comes into the picture since the Banished may create more havoc. Atriox's army might acquire a powerful weapon soon that may harm the entire galaxy, and it is up to the UNSC to stop their scheme.

Furthermore, the new trailer does show any new systems and mechanics for "Halo Wars 2," but it establishes the story and widens the universe of the "Halo" franchise. Also, the upcoming game is a real-time strategy title that can be compared to "StarCraft II."

According to reports, the Ultimate Edition for "Halo Wars 2" is already available for preorder and the variant will cost $79.99. Aside from the copy of the base game, it will already include the season pass and also the Definitive Edition of the first "Halo Wars." There is a special treat for the players who will preorder the Ultimate Edition since they would gain early access for the "Halo Wars" Definitive Edition on Dec. 20.

"Halo Wars 2" was supposed to have a launch date during fall 2016, but the game has experienced a delay. The new release date of the latest installment of the "Halo" franchise has been moved to Feb. 21, 2017 for Windows PC and Xbox One.
