Battlefield 4’s Battlelog integration simplified

With the new Battlefield title's release just around the corner, it seems like 2013 is set to be yet another successful year for DICE. Apart from the fact that it's a huge title, what makes it even more special is its online integration with smartphones and tablets.

By now, we all know that DICE’s Battlefield 4 will support the integration of the popular Battlelog feature that fans can access even on the move from their smartphones and tablets. However, compared to the previous years, the new Battlelog for Battlefield is expected to change to offer new feature to fans, while also getting rid of few loose ends.

So what exactly is the deal with the new Battlelog for the new game? As revealed by DICE itself, the revamped Battlelog feature for the game is meant to create an enhanced gameplay experience for players, and will allow them to be constantly connected to the game.

For starters, DICE has changed a few features like fully integrating Battlelog into the game on next-gen consoles and PC. By doing this, the development team is now able to offer Battlelog a more refined style and look that is much more in-tune with the original game, aside all the connected features and more options to customize the gameplay experience.

To integrate the Battlelog experience into the new game and offer seamless gameplay, DICE is now offering a widget in the top right corner of the interface. The aim here is for players to see how many of their friends are currently playing the game or how many active missions are available at the moment – also note that while checking up for active missions, players can actually create new challenges for themselves and their friends.

The widget, DICE states, “also gives you notifications for certain events. For example, Battlelog will let you know of Mission invites, if someone beat your score in a Mission or when a friend joins your server. We tried to balance it so it isn’t too intrusive, yet still gives you the information you want, when you want it. If you still prefer to go without it, you have the option to hide the widget.”

As expected, players can bring up the Battlelog overlay at any time when in the game. However, players on PC and next generation consoles are in for a treat as DICE has ensured that it will be bringing Battlelog “in the best possible way” while inside the game – the difference of which will only be noticed as soon as the game is released.

The in-game overlay is also said to provide access to a boatload of Battlelog features. For example, “You can see what your friends are doing, check their stats and join their game. You can also see who is in your squad when playing multiplayer and look up their profile.”

“Maybe you want to check your standings on the Geo Leaderboards, or create a Mission. It’s all available at any time during the game. You can even see how you’re progressing towards your next rank or unlocks in real-time!”

Speaking about Geo Leaderboards, it’s an idea derived from the concept of local arcades displaying high scores in a combined manner for all the players involved. The Geo Leaderboards is where players can set their position to compete against anyone on the planet.

“We have leaderboards for weapons, vehicles, skill, kills, time played, and many more – allowing you to compete in a lot of different areas. We hope there’s a leaderboard that everyone feels they can compete in, no matter how they play the game. You can try to be the best assault player in your city, or the best reviver; you can go for getting the best Personal Record in your town,” the official page for the same states.

“A Personal Record is getting the best score in a single round in some category, and it could be something like getting the most kills, best score or even destroying the most vehicles.”

Battlefield 4 is scheduled to release for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on Oct. 29 in North America and Nov. 1 in Europe, with versions for PS4 and Xbox One arriving in Q4 2013. Check more about the Battlelog features here.
