Grand Theft Auto Online News: Stimulus Package Delayed

Rockstar Wants to Iron Out GTA Online's Other Issues Before Releasing its Stimulus Package

If you were hoping to be $250,000 richer in Grand Theft Auto Online before this week was through, prepare to be disappointed. Rockstar's stimulus package for the game, meant as an apology for the game's various errors, has been delayed until the developer can iron out the game's remaining issues.

Title Update 1.04 was supposed to clear the way for the patch, and gamers were on schedule to get that much richer. But Rockstar was a bit lax on providing an actual date when gamers could expect their online accounts to bulge. When a gamer asked when exactly the first of the two deposits could be expected (as well as heists), Rockstar responded, "We hope to have an update for you on that very soon. As others have mentioned here, we of course want to make sure player progress loss issues are addressed before providing everyone with their GTA$500K. Thanks for your patience and please stay tuned."

A tweet from the company later followed, reading, "We'll have an update on the GTA Online Stimulus Package payments soon."

It seems as though Rockstar overestimated its abilities to fix the issues and giving players even a window of time where they could expect the first portion of the Stimulus Package's half-million in virtual hard currency. Though, the company's hesitancy is understandable, after all, why dole out all the money when players are still at risk of losing it like so much else?

Since GTA Online went live (once they managed to get past the overcrowded servers), players have been reporting losing their cash, ranks, progress, and even properties like garages and apartments. The Stimulus Package was meant as an apology of sorts for these associated issues.

A post on the company's newswire originally detailed:

"In order to keep the current worldwide in-game economy balanced, we will be providing this GTA$ to players via two deposits of $250,000...Players will first have to install a forthcoming GTAV title update which we expect to happen next week. That title update (1.04)...will also enable the functionality through which we'll be providing this GTA$ stimulus cash to players."

It's difficult to complain about getting something for nothing, but the frustration over the delayed package is certainly understandable.

We'll keep you posted if there's any further developments.
