Blacklight: Retribution Detailed – Customization Options, DualShock 4 Incorporation, and More

Blacklight: Retribution Revamped for PS4 with DualShock 4 Incorporation, Customization Options, and More

Blacklight: Retribution, the free-to-play FPS title from Zombie Studios and Perfect World Entertainment is an upcoming launch title for Sony’s next generation PlayStation 4. With the new rendition of the game for the next generation arriving in a few days time, it will be interesting to see how the game adapts to the future mechanics and incorporate itself with new controllers.

Recently, Zombie studios director Jared Gerritzen was in an interview with Gamingbolt, where he discussed a number of in-game features for the PS4 version, and how the company has improved upon the already available customization options.

On asked why the company chose to re-introduce the same game for the new generation, rather than offering brand new content, or even a sequel to the original title, Gerritzen stated: “Our players love the game, and we love our players! We wanted to make sure it was available to as many people as possible, for our current fans and our new. Zombie Studios also gained the rights to publish and produce Blacklight: Retribution, and we were excited to bring it to a new player base and console.”

The re-introduced title's in-game content is expected to be a bit different on the PlayStation 4. Keeping that in mind, Gerritzen stated that since the company has respect for all its PC players, it has decided to keep the same content for the players on the PS4 as well.

“Part of what we did during development was optimize our maps, and we plan to bring these to the PC for even better performance. We want to make sure our content is equal to our PC and console players,” he added.

Confirming that the game on the new console will run at a resolution of 1080p with an aim to reach even more as the game evolves, Gerritzen discussed a bit about the title’s customization options and changes.

“We remade the menu system to allow controller players to easily customize and easily interact with the game, and we utilized the touchscreen to bring some of our systems to the controller because the keyboard just has more keys. We also redid the pricing and monetization for the game,” he said.

Bringing up the age old comparison of titles on next generation consoles and on a high-end PC, it was revealed that the PC settings have been “cranked up to their highest setting on the PlayStation 4, so it holds up great! We are really happy how the transition between high end PC and PlayStation 4 works for us.”

Lastly, on the implementation the new generation DualShock 4 for the game and how it will enhance the gameplay in Blacklight: Retribution, Gerritzen stated: “One of the challenges of porting a PC game to a console is that you lose out on having a keyboard that gives you a lot of options for input.”

“The DualShock 4 controller really helps us rise to the challenge of mapping keyboard commands to the controller. We can get really creative with the touchpad and come up with great ways for the players to give input.”

Blacklight: Retribution is currently scheduled to launch on Nov. 15 for the PlayStation 4.
