'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' Release Date, Latest News, & Update: Director Gareth Edwards Discusses Jedi Politics, Reveals Spoilers; Details Here!

With "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" hitting theaters soon, fans are excited to know more about what the upcoming installment of the well-loved saga will bring. Fortuantely, the director of the new film shared some insight about the conflicts presented in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."

After releasing teaser photos of the film to NME, Gareth Edwards, the director of the new "Star Wars" installment, recently spoke to IGN about the kind of politics that "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will tackle. Teasers of the new film hinted that the upcoming movie will bring some chaos to the big screens. Edwards addressed what kind of storyline "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will present.

He explained that even though the fall of the Jedi happened twenty years before the happenings of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," the movie will still show the Jedi treated differently, which is why it is set on the planet Jedha. Edwards stated that Jedha will serve as a religious location for Force believers and will be an important part of the upcoming film.

In addition, Edwards revealed that this will build onto the conflict of peace and evil. "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is said to present several perspectives that will challenge the audience. "Film and story is a chance to point that out. I don't think you get peace by destroying everyone you think is evil. You get peace by understanding each other. And so, we're trying to show that from all different perspectives. We have good people that end up doing bad things, we have bad people that do good things, but every character in this film has their own perspective on events," he explained.

The "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" director also said that they hope to make the film more relevant in order to create a timeless legacy for the well-loved franchise. This is why the film presents a diverse cast, which is led by a female character, played by Felicity Jones. Fans can see them when "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" releases in theaters this Dec. 16.
