‘Final Fantasy 15’ Latest News & Update: Square Enix To Release Free DLCs; New Playable Characters, Avatar System, In-Game Rewards

Less than a month after Square Enix released the latest installment to the "Final Fantasy" franchise, the gaming company unveiled its future plans for the role-playing game. With a few upcoming gameplay and system enhancements, "Final Fantasy 15" gamers can expect to see several free DLCs added to the game.

Recently, game director Hajime Tabata unveiled the short to long-term development roadmap that Square Enix has prepared for "Final Fantasy 15." In a press release, as obtained by Dual Shockers, Tabata mentioned that as part of the company's short-term plans, gameplay enhancements to Chapter 13 will soon be deployed.

"Final Fantasy 15" Chapter 13 will also get a storyline update that will add event cut scenes to enhance the said chapter's plot. Square Enix's development team is set to work on these improvements as part of the company's medium-term goal for the game.

On a long-term basis, gamers can expect to see new playable characters to be added to "Final Fantasy 15." Tabata mentioned that these characters will be different from upcoming DLC packs that Square Enix previously announced.

Other planned game enhancements include an avatar system with a character customization feature, new game items such as an invincibility armor and more. Moreover, Square Enix is also planning to add live content that will introduce boss fights, mob hunts, as well as a new achievements and rewards matrix.

At this time, it is unclear when these planned free DLCs will be added to "Final Fantasy 15." Square Enix's Tabata did not unveil the target timelines for its development roadmap.

In other news, "Final Fantasy 15's" launch week sales in Japan posted low numbers as compared to the game's earlier installments. Gaming retailers in the said Asian country sold 690,471 copies of Square Enix's game, according to Media Create, as cited by Kotaku.

Previous "Final Fantasy" games registered higher sale numbers in Japan such as "Final Fantasy 8" and "Final Fantasy 7" that each sold more than 2 million copies during its launch week. Meanwhile, "Final Fantasy 13, "Final Fantasy 10," and "Final Fantasy 12" sold 1.5 million copies, 1.7 million and 1.8 million, respectively.
