With the recent "Attack on Titan" Season 2 release date announcement for Japan, fans were no doubt relieved that after months of waiting, the anime series' second season was finally announced. But more good news await fans. In a recent announcement, Funimation Entertainment acquired the license to air the series, finalizing its second season release for the US and Canadian regions.
Up until a few weeks ago, the actual "Attack on Titan" Season 2 air date was still uncertain. Fans were understandably worried of the delay as it has been more than three years since the 25 episode season 1 last aired.
Thankfully, it was finally announced that the Japanese "Attack on Titan" Season 2 release date would arrive sometime in April 2017. With the recent announcement of Funimation's acquisition of airing rights for the series' second season, all is set for its entry into the American and Canadian markets, reports Crunchyroll.
While it is still unclear if Animation's airing of "Attack on Titan" Season 2 will be a simulcast of its Japanese counterpart, most believe that to be the case. The company was also aired "AoT" season 1 in a simulcast with its Japanese release which makes it highly likely to be the set up to be adopted for the second season's airing. What is known so far is that the upcoming "AoT" Season 2 will have 20 + action-packed episodes, which will definitely make the long wait worth it.
"Attack on Titan" Season 2 is based on Hajime Isayama's ongoing manga series about the fight battle between regular humans and special humans that have the ability to turn into man-eating giants also known as titans in the series. The franchise spawned several works in other media such as novels and spin-off manga, video games and live action movies.
