There is still no word from Starz when “Outlander” Season 3 will be back on air but, the network is making sure that the fans of the series will not be suffering from the infamous “Droughtlander” this time. It is the period in-between seasons when production is still underway and no official announcements are being released. Lead star Caitriona Balfe, who plays Claire, has just given out some details that might tide the fans during the long wait for next season.
A different kind of struggle for Claire
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actress talked about how different her character’s struggles are in “Outlander” Season 3 compared to the previous season. Fans of the series and its source material, Diana Gabaldon’s “Outlander” book series, are aware that it was quite an emotional struggle for Claire from losing her first baby to being forced to leave Jamie (Sam Heughan). But, by the end of the second season, an older Claire found out that the love of her life was still alive. This prompted her travel back in time through the stones.
20 years of Claire’s life
Balfe also said that what makes “Outlander” Season 3 from the previous seasons is that it will go through 20 years of Claire’s life and showing little vignettes of the woman she has become. It was a different kind of challenge for the show for it is not easy telling the story of a woman and her relationship over 20 years worth in just a few scenes. It is indeed a unique challenge which makes the coming season different.
Slow build-up to the reunion
The interview happened when Balfe was halfway done with filming her scenes for “Outlander” Season 3, specifically her scenes with Brianna (Sophie Skelton) while they lived in Boston. Balfe also shared that the next scenes she will be filming are the heavy scenes that will feature her reunion with Jamie. Unfortunately, that was all the actress was willing to share. She did not reveal when exactly are the star-crossed lovers will be reunited.
EP Maril Davis has previously said that there will be a slow build-up to the much anticipated scene in “Outlander” Season 3. They want it to create as much impact from the scene as they can. It could also be a hint that the first few episodes of the new season will be those with Jamie and Claire apart from each other.
