With "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" hitting theaters in just a matter of days, it's now time to look forward to the yet mysterious "Star Wars: Episode 8." Fans of Star Wars are buzzing around with excitement as they might know now what the title of the next Skywalker sequel is.
Disney and company have been keeping their cards extremely close to their chest. They would want fans to experience true moments of surprise and joy in the movie theaters. But with Lucasfilm filing a trademark to the European Union Intellectual Property Office for "Star Wars: Forces of Destiny," there are speculations that this could be the title of the most anticipated movie "Star Wars: Episode 8."
It can be recalled that when the episode before "Star Wars: Episode 8," which is "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" was released, Lucasfilm had teased character details and other elements of the plot through a wide range of merchandise. The toys of the movie line, which is saleable to this day, were some of the hottest selling products at that time. There were also novels, apart from toys, that revealed details about the events just prior to the film. With that said, it is believed that the reason why Lucasfilm has filed for the name "Star Wars: Forces of Destiny" is to allow the company to use it for various merchandise like clothes, toys, Christmas tree ornaments and even staplers.
Apart from the title reveal, fans are already looking forward to a teaser trailer of "Star Wars: Episode 8" to be released soon. Filming of the movie wrapped in July this year, and the movie is currently in the post-production phase of development. So "Star Wars: Episode 8" cast and crew may have been cooking something up to get the fans more excited.
While the supposed title of "Star Wars: Episode 8" isn't confirmed yet, fans of the Skywalker sequel may now start to speculate what the name "Forces of Destiny" actual means for the film in terms of the plot. "Star Wars: Episode 8" hits cinemas on Dec. 15, 2017.
