It's been sixteen years since Rob Marshall's musical criminal comedy "Chicago" has catapulted Hollywood and every award-givng bodies in all its epicness and grand fluidity. Sixteen years and not one similar to its calibre has landed the film industry yet apart from remakes "Hairspray" and Marshall's very own "Into The Woods," which re-acquainted the crowd with his musical panache in 2014. Flashforward to 2016, it now appears that the industry is now again ready to witness yet another masterpiece from Damien Chazelle's "La La Land," whose film has just generated so much buzz, ultimately leading the Golden Globes 2017 with seven nominations. And as Golden Globes is a reliable indicator of what lies ahead, will it also spearhead the forthcoming Oscars?
The Golden Globe 2017 nominations were announced on Monday by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and the musical "La La Land" was clearly a favorite as it garnered seven nominations, leading the pack with the drama "Moonlight. The nods included acting considerations for Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, along with the direction of Damien Chazelle, the film's screenplay, score and song.
Meanwhile, Barry Jenkins' American drama film "Moonlight" has snatched six nominations in Golden Globes 2017. These comprised of best motion picture, direction for Barry Jenkins, best screenplay and score. The film follows an unfortunate Miami native in three periods of his life. Meanwhile, the character is played by three different actors as well. Its supporting players, Mahershala Ali and Naomi Harris, have both garnered acting nods according with the former being favorited to win.
"La La Land's" plot oversees a musician and an aspiring actress whose paths have crossed and fallen in love in Los Angeles. If indeed the film would sweep the awarding season next year, "La La Land" would be relishing it interminably as only few have been able to generate such rave reviews for a musical, sans its major performance in terms of acting and direction. Golden Globes 2017 is scheduled to be aired on Jan. 8, 2017.
"La La Land" serves as the third film in which Gosling and Stone are portayed as lovers. The first and second being "Crazy, Stupid, Love" and "Gangster Squad."
