The 3D Runner shoe features an engineered 3D web structure with dense zones in high force areas and less dense zones in the low force areas, allowing for the optimum level of performance. It also features a 3D printed heel counter, which is integrated into the midsole and avoids the typical process of stitching or gluing.

Adidas 3D-Printed Running Shoes Is Just The Beginning

"This is merely the beginning. Crafting customized shoes based on a person's footprint- including their running style, foot shape, performance needs and personal preferences is a north star for the industry and adidas is leading with spearhead innovations." according to the Senior Director of Adidas Future team, Mikal Peveto.

As the shoe is named, the 3D Runner, features a similar design as the one Adidas gifted its medal-winning athletes during the 2016 Rio Olympics including Team GB heptathlete Jessica Ennis-Hill, Colombian BMX cyclist Mariana Pajon and USA swimmer Allison Schmitt, shares Competitor.com.

The German multinational corporation announced earlier that it will be selling a 3D-printed running shoe for the first time, although in limited-edition form with pricing set at $333. Sadly, these shoes will only be available in New York City, London, and Tokyo, for a limited number of customers who sign up on December 12 to 13 via the Adidas Confirmed app, which is available for iOS and Android.

Consumers can get their hands on the reserved pair at the  Adidas NYC, the brand's new flagship store. The shoes can be picked up on December 15 the at 5th Avenue. A limited number of the shoes will also be made available on December 15 in London and Tokyo. Although the 3D Runner appears expensive, if fans miss out at launch, it'll end up on the resell market for hundreds of dollars above its original MSRP, writes Engadget.
