‘The Walking Dead’ Season 7: Andrew Lincoln Says Midseason Bromance Hug Between Rick, Daryl Was Embarrassing; Blame Negan’s Violence For Lesser Viewers

Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) reunited at the end of “The Walking Dead” Season 7 Midseason Finale after the escape of Daryl from Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Their meeting was characterized by a “bromance” hug, followed by the handing over of the gun.

These two acts symbolized the readiness of the community at the Hilltop to fight back the Saviours. But in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Andrew Lincoln shared that the big bromance hug in “The Walking Dead” Season 7 was embarrassing. They had to repeat the takes and the crew could not pry them apart.

Stinky Sweatpants

Andrew Lincoln said he even began to shed tears because of the smell of Daryl Dixon who had changed from the stinky sweatpants he wore before the hug scene in “The Walking Dead” Season 7. “I was so relieved that I didn’t have to hug him in those awful sweats,” Andrew Lincoln added.

According to Thedailybeast, Rick needs to defeat Negan and his well-armed army by uniting the three communities and laying siege against the forces of Negan who would end up in a prison cell in Alexandria, based on the comics. “The Walking Dead” Season 7 also had two dead Alexandrians, Spencer and Olivia.

Too Many Corpses

However, Fox notes that the rising number of dead bodies in the show in the hands of Negan could be the reason behind the dwindling viewer numbers of the show. Season 7’s premiere got over 17 million viewers, but “The Walking Dead” Season 7 Midseason Finale got only 10.6 million viewers.

Negan’s use of the baseball bat wrapped with barbed wire to kill two characters, who were favorite of fans of “The Walking Dead” Season 7, resulted in a sudden drop in viewer numbers to 12.5 million from 17 million by Episode 2.
