The latest from the movie adaptation of Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" is an image where Idris Elba, who plays Roland the Gunslinger, is having a stare-down with Matthew McConaughey, who portrays the Man in Black. "The Dark Tower" movie has released a few stills so far, since principal photography was completed in July 2016. But other than those, nothing else has been announced for the fans of Stephen King novels.
In the story of "The Dark Tower," Roland, the Gunslinger rides after the Man in Black to capture and stop him from creating chaos. But his pursuit of his adversary is only one of several things the Gunslinger has to accomplish before he reaches his ultimate destination, the Dark Tower. There is not much to go on with, but the first trailer is expected this Christmas, so perhaps, besides reading King's books, that will be more illuminating for those who have not read the whole series of eight books by Stephen King.
It has been reported that a paucity of promotional material exists because the visual effects still need a lot of work. As a result of this, the schedule for release of "The Dark Tower" was moved to July 28, 2017, from the original date, Feb. 17, 2017. This would give the studio some time to work on the film promotion.
Moving the release date for "The Dark Tower" also keeps the studio within its $60 million budget which could have ballooned and cost millions if the work on the visual effects were rushed. Now the studio can take more time to be certain those effects are what they need to be.
The novel "The Dark Tower" is only one book out of the eight in a series of books written by Stephen King which was inspired by the writing of J.R.R. Tolkien. With so much potential for the film franchise to expand in the future, it is well worth the investment of time to make sure the first film is done right.
