"Secrets and Lies" season 2 finally ended and after eight weeks of trying to figure out who is the real killer of Kate Warner (Jordana Brewster), fans have finally identified the real culprit. But the biggest mystery now that fans are trying to find out is whether the show will head on to season 3.
According to reports, there's a possibility that "Secrets and Lies" season 3 will be canceled. Nothing is certain yet but the possible reason why the show will be chopped off NBC is because of the low ratings. When the mystery anthology series premiered its second season, it only garnered 4.06 million viewers, which is lesser than the lowest-rated episode of season 1. It even went down in the season finale, gaining only 3.5 million viewers. "Secrets and Lies" season 1 finale performed better with results revealing 5.66 million total viewers.
It's still unclear why the ratings dropped significantly but critics suggest that it has something to do with Ryan Philippe's departure from the show. Ever since he left, viewers' rating declined. It seems like new faces Michael Ealy, Terry O'Quinn and Brewster did not click so much among fans. "Secrets and Lies" also may have slacked off in bringing in more characters. Its schedule may also have been a factor since it was moved to a new one for season 2.
As of now, fans will have to wait to find out the fate of "Secrets and Lies" season 3. If the speculations are right, those who enjoyed the show will be left hanging since season 2 finale closed with a major cliffhanger. It can be recalled that Juliette Lewis' character Detective Andrea Cornell had a shocker when she saw her daughter high on drugs and going through her stuff. She tries to talk to her daughter when she realized that her gun is missing.
"Secrets and Lies" season 2 then ended with gunshots but it was not revealed whether Cornell was hit or not. Fans will have to stay tuned to find out how things will turn out for her.
