Ferrari J50 Roadster World Premiere Latest News & Update: Limited Edition Of Luxury & Style Launched In Japan

Ferrari has been in Japan for 50 years now, and the Italian company decided to give the country a little surprise. This happened in an extraordinary celebration held at the National Art Center to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Ferrari; the Italian sports car manufacturer unveiled a limited series of custom-built cars- the drop-dead gorgeous J50.

The Ferrari J50 Heralds A Radically Futuristic Design Language

Ferrari suggests the J50 is somewhat a test car for Ferrari's new design language. The curved see-through polycarbonate over the engine is amazing to look at, and precisely the kind of mad visual feature a supercar like this should have. The Ferrari J50 is a two-seater, mid-rear-engined roadster that marks a return to the targa body style suggestive of many well-loved Ferrari road cars of the 1970s and 1980s.

Produced by Ferrari's Special Projects department and designed by the Ferrari Styling Centre team in Maranello, Ferrari said that only 10 examples of the J50 will be manufactured and, in the spirit of Ferrari's tradition, each one will be personalized in detail to the customer's requirements, according to the Ferrari website.

Ferrari J50: Limited Edition Roadster Based On The 488 Spider

Based on the 488 Spider, the J50 is powered by a specific 690 CV version of the 3.9-litre V8 that garnered the overall International Engine of the Year Award this year. Andrea Militello, Ferrari lead designer, said that he finds the daytime running lights a clever design that is integrated seamlessly into a black strip.

Its two carbon-fiber targa panels can fit behind the seats, shares Carscoops, should the driver or passenger prefer to be roofless. The bottom splitter likewise mimics the shape of a formula car's front wing, too, without feeling like a tacky try-hard add-on. The J50 exhibited at the launch in Tokyo is finished in a distinctive shade of three-layer red with a red-over-black interior trimmed in exquisite leather and Alcantara.
