‘Pokemon GO’ Guide: How To Get Shiny Magikarp Or Red Gyarados

In the recent update of “Pokemon GO”, the game has finally released a shiny Magikarp and a Red Gyarados in the wild. Although Niantic has not confirmed the reports, many news report and forums have acknowledged that the two much awaited Pokemon are indeed already in the wild. And although the chances of catching one are very slim, this guide will help players increase their chances in catching the Shiny Magikarp that can evolve to a Red Gyarados or, better yet, catch a Red Gyarados in the wild.

How to Catch Shiny Magikarp

Just like the Pokemon game from Nintendo, Magikarp is the first shiny Pokemon they released in the wild which explains why this is also the first Pokemon released by Niantic. And just like in the Nintendo game, the best way to catch one is to find their nest. Depending on the player’s location, they should find a nearby nest according to Gamerant. Since Magikarp is a water-type Pokemon, it's likely to be found near a body of water like fountains, shorelines, and even ponds. Magikarp is one of the common water-type Pokemon found so spending a day in its nest will allow the players to catch a lot of it and hopefully one of them is a shiny one.

How to Increase the Chance of Catching a Shiny Magikarp or Red Gyarados

There are many ways to increase a player’s chance to catch the shiny Pokemon. One is to use game items like incense to attract Pokemon to go near the player and Lure modules to get them to visit a Pokestop. And if the player wants’s to further increase their chances, they can choose a spot with many PokeStops nearby and activate a Lure module on every stop. So if there are three PokeStop in the area, activate the Lure and players can get 3 Pokemon in each stop every 5 minutes.
