'Resident Evil 4' Remake will Focus More on Horror that Action, says Reports

Several unconfirmed reports revealed that the unannounced remake for Resident Evil 4 would deviate from the original game while changing several of its scenes to make the game have a spookier tone.

According to Fanbyte, Capcom will not be focusing on remaking Resident Evil 4 scene by scene. Instead, they are planning to adjust the game's timeline.

This means that the remake will have its first scenes during the night time and not during the day, just like in the original game.

These include the introduction of the European village that Leon Kennedy will be investigating and the first sequence where he will be fighting against a horde of infected villagers.

Another twist that Capcom wanted to do for the Resident Evil 4 remake, according to Gamespot, is the tone of the game where it could return its spookier roots.

This direction came from the game's prototype build for the Nintendo GameCube heavy on horror and supernatural events.

The prototype build features Leon wandering inside a lonely castle, getting possessed by a mysterious black smoke, and fighting off living dolls and other ghostly manifestations.

Several of the elements from the prototype build were included in the original game in other forms, while some of them did not make it to its developmental phase.

Aside from the changes made for its storyline, according to Gaming Bible, Capcom is also planning to give bigger roles and additional screentime for the game's side characters while fleshing out Resident Evil 4's other aspects.

One of which is the planned merging of two in-game campaigns, Assignment: Ada and Separate Ways, in one polished companion piece. These campaigns are centered around Ada Wong, another important character in Resident Evil 4.

However, it is unsure if they want to release it as separate downloadable content (DLC) or as part of the main game.

Reports also revealed that the leaked character sketches for Albert Wesker's redesign were inaccurate, and it came from a canceled Resident Evil project.

These sketches, according to Eurogamer were leaked by D.C. Douglas, Wesker's voice actor last November of last year, after announcing that he might reprise the character in the remake.

The Resident Evil 4 remake was developed by M-Two, a studio comprised of former Capcom and PlatinumGames developers who first worked on the Resident Evil 3 remake.

The game studio is also expecting that they will have Mikami Shinji, the original director of the game, to work alongside Minami Tatsuya, another former video game creator for Capcom and the chief executive officer of PlatinumGames.

Mikami, in an interview for VG247.com, said that fans will likely want the remake to happen, and if Capcom could do a great job handling the game's development and make its story better, it will turn out to be well and interesting.

Before the planned remake, Capcom released the virtual reality (VR) version of Resident Evil 4 for the Oculus Quest 2 last October 2021. The Resident Evil 4 Remake is expected to be launched early in 2022.
