'Magic The Gathering' Announces Collaboration with 'Street Fighter' for the Card Game's 'Secret Lair' Series

Wizards of the Coast revealed the first eight cards that will be included in Magic: The Gathering's brand-new Secret Lair set that will feature characters and other elements from the Street Fighter series.

The crossover between the tabletop collective card game and Capcom's fighting game franchise was first announced last year.

According to PC Invasion, the official reveal comes after a leak was posted online containing the details of the cards. The leak, which was first seen on Twitter, was later deleted.

These eight new cards are Legendary Creatures with abilities based on their moves in the video game franchise.

E. Honda, Sumo Champion, according to Kakuchopurei, can increase the Toughness of any number of Creatures with its Hundred Hand Slap and assign combat damage equal to its Toughness rather than its Power with Sumo Spirit.

Ryu, World Warrior can deal damage equal to his Power to any target with his Hadouken, while Ken, Burning Brawler can give itself First Strike and let its controller cast Sorcery spells from its hand with its Shoryuken.

Chun-Li, Countless Kicks can exile Instants from the Gravyard with Multikicker and copy them with Lightning Kick while Guile, Sonic Soldier can cast either Sonic Boom or Flash Kick every time a charge counter is removed from him.

Blanka, Ferocious Friend can give itself a +2/+2 buff deal 2 damage to each enemy with his Electric Thunder, while Dhalsim, Pliable Pacifist lets its controller draw a card every time its creatures deal damage with its Fierce Punch.

Finally, Zangief, the Red Cyclone can be indestructible during their turn with Iron Muscle.

According to IGN, these cards can still be added to Commander decks. They are also legal to play in other Eternal formats such as Legacy and Vintage. However, players cannot use these cards in officially sanctioned tournaments.

Mark Heggen, product architect for Magic: The Gathering, even assured that these cards, once they are printed, will not accidentally ruin the formats.

The Street Fighter Secret Lair Set is one of many limited-time Secret Lair sets that Wizards of the Coast created for Magic: The Gathering in partnership with other media franchises.

Before the new set, they have done Secret Lair sets for The Walking DeadStranger Things, and Arcane.

After six months following its launch, they will have new versions that will be released in standard Magic: The Gathering sets as regular non-licensed cards.

The Street Fighter Secret Lair Set will be included in the February Superdrop and other releases, including cards included in the recently released Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Set that received alternate card arts.

Pre-orders for the set will be open today, Feb. 18, and will last until Mar. 18. The final card that will be included in the set will be revealed on Feb. 20 during the Capcom Pro Tour 2021 Finals.
