7 'Resident Evil' Characters We Want to See Return to the Games After Their Long Absence

"Resident Evil," without a doubt, is one of the most popular video game franchise out there, especially in the survival horror genre. It has also given gamers a number of memorable characters to love, such as Leon Scott Kennedy, siblings Chris and Claire Redfield, and Ada Wong.

Much as we love to see these popular characters frequently when we play the "Resident Evil" games, there are those we miss because we have not seen them in a long time. Fans of the franchise, in particular, often wonder what happened to these characters and when we would see them again.

Here are the seven characters we would love to see in the "Resident Evil" games once more after their long absence. Spoilers ahead for those who have not played all or some of the "RE" video games.

Barry Burton

We first met Barry Burton in the first ever Resident Evil game, where he was a supporting character in Jill Valentine's story. In the game, he is a weapons specialist who ends up betraying his team thanks to Albert Wesker, "Resident Evil's" popular villain.

The last game Barry Burton appeared in is "Resident Evil: Revelations 2," which came out in 2015. He is a major playable character in the said game, along with Claire Redfield. The game ends with him adopting Natalia, the child he meets in the game who has something unusual about her.

Billy Coen

We first and last saw Billy Coen in "Resident Evil Zero," where he is one of the protagonists of the game along with Rebecca Chambers, who will we talk about later. "RE0," as the game is also referred to, came out in 2002.

in the game, Billy coen is a former Second Lieutenant in the Marines who has been sentenced to death for a massacre. However, it was eventually revealed in the game that he is actually innocent. The game ends with Rebecca allowing him to escape, as she believed he was innocent, before declaring him dead.

He has not appeared in any "RE" game ever since. Should he make a return, it would be interesting for fans to see what has happened to him since his escape.

Carlos Oliveira

For fans who played the remake of "Resident Evil 3," it may seem like it has not been a long time since Carlos Oliveira was seen since the remake came out in 2020. However, as far as the main series games of "RE," Carlos has not appeared in any game aside from "RE3."

The remake expands on his character more and given fans a longer opportunity to play as him. He escapes with fellow protagonist Jill Valentine at the end of the game and, as far as the main series in concerned, has not been seen or heard from since.

Jill Valentine

Speaking of Jill Valentine, she has also made it to this list. What sets her apart from everyone in this rundown is that she is one of the characters that has appeared in more main series games.

Her first appearance in the franchise is in the 1996 "Resident Evil" game. As far as release dates are concerned, she is last seen in the remake of "RE 3" as previously mentioned. However, as far as the chronology of the games are concerned, she last made an appearance in "Resident Evil 5," where she was saved by Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar from Albert Wesker's control.

It wold be interesting to see what has become of Jill Valentine since then should she feature in a new "RE" game.

Moira Burton

Moira Burton is one of the "RE" characters that has appeared in only one main series game thus far, which is "Revelations 2." The estranged daughter of Barry Burton, she is a playable character in the game and accompanies Claire Redfield, who is her TerraSave co-worker.

After saving her father, Claire, and her friends at the end of the game, Moira has not be seen or heard from since.

Rebecca Chambers

Rebecca Chambers has appeared as a playable campaign character in two main series "RE" games thus far, "Resident Evil Zero" and the 1996 "Resident Evil." It should be noted that she also makes an appaearance as a mini game playable character in "RE5."

She survives in the stories of both main series games she appears in and, as far as the games are concerned, has not featured in any main "RE" game since. However, she was last seen in the CGI film "Resident Evil: Vendetta," where fans were updated about what she has been up to since.

Sheva Alomar

Last and certainly not the least, there is Sheva Alomar, whose first and last appearance so far is in "RE5," which came out in 2005. A playable character in the game's co-op mode, Sheva is the new partner of Chris Redfield.

Sheva survives the game after she and Chris manage to kill Albert Wesker and stop the operations of Tricell, a company whose control is to spread another bio organic weapon (BOWs) around the world. She has not made any "RE" game appearance since "RE5" despite her partner featuring in succeeding releases for the the franchise.
