Coachella is coming to Fortnite! Fortnite is partnering with the epic annual music festival and will bring popular music artists to the game. A blog on the Epic Games website says that players will be able to experience the sound and fashion of the event as they release Coachella-themed items in the store.
Fortnite Players Can Get Coachella-themed Items
The items will drop in two weekends, according to Epic Games. The first wave of items dropped on April 14, while the next will be on April 21. They will consist of accessories, outfits, and skins to allow the players to dress up as if they're going to the actual festival.
The first wave includes outfits called Wilder and Lyric. They feature Cosmic Equalizer skins that react to the music as well as accessories to match. Wilder's item pack also includes the Finfin Back Bling which shows an image of a neon shark, as well as the similarly-themed Neon Biter Pickaxe and Finfin Flair Wrap. Lyric will be able to wear the Swaguaro Back Bling, which comes in the shape of a rainbow cactus, as well as the Festival Shredder Pickaxe, which is a flaming electric guitar.
The second wave will feature items called Alto and Poet. The Alto pack comes with Sonic Vibes Back Bling, which shows an image of a smiley wearing headphones, and the Softest Electropalm Pickaxe. The Poet pack, on the other hand, comes with the Cosmonautic Helmet Back Bling, Cactical Crusher Pickaxe, and the Mainstage Wrap.

Fortnite's Icon Radio Will Feature Music by Coachella Headliners
Players will also get to tune into the game's Icon Radio, where they can listen to the 30 artists who will headline the festival, according to IGN. These artists include Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, and Doja Cat. There are no details about actual shows that would be hosted inside the game. But since the game has previously hosted concerts with superstars such as Ariana Grande, Marshmello, and Travis Scott, a full-blown Coachella event won't be far from happening in the future.
Collaboration with music artists and labels isn't new to Fortnite. Just last February, the game released premium items based on the likeness of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak. In 2020, Epic Games built a real-life soundstage where artists can put on a show while being broadcasted inside the game using its Party Royale Mode feature. The soundstage comes complete with an LED wall and remotely-controlled cameras.
Epic Games hopes to utilize mixed and augmented reality in bringing a new type of concert experience. They also hope to make the events longer, similar to real-life full-length concerts. Since Epic Games are also the creators of the Unreal Engine, it is very likely that this would happen soon.
According to Game Informer, this collaboration comes after the news of Sony and Kirkbi, Lego's parent company, investing a joint amount of $2 Billion in Epic Games in efforts to build a fully-functional metaverse. Fortnite is the perfect template for this as they have emulated real-life interactions using the online space.
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival will run from Apr. 15 -17. The collaboration with Fortnite is part of a larger effort by the festival to include digital components. Exclusive NFTs, as well as AR apps, were released to promote the event.
