Nintedo Direct on April 8, 6 p.m. EST To Focus On Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS: Release Date Incoming?

Are We About To Get a Super Smash Release Date? Nintendo Direct Coming On April 8

We've already been treated to some new screens and a trailer from Mario Kart 8 this week, and it looks like Nintendo's going to keep the good Wii U and 3DS vibes rolling this coming Tuesday with a special Super Smash Bros.-themed Nintendo Direct.

"Visit https://www.nintendo.com/nintendo-direct on Tuesday, April 8, at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT for a Nintendo Direct providing new details on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS," Nintendo said in a very succinct press release today.

It's been a little while since Nintendo dished on Smash Bros., with the last announcement being the addition of Punch Out!!'s Little Mac to the roster. With Mario Kart 8 coming on May 30 it would be a huge boon to Nintendo if they could announce a release date for Smash sometime this summer.

With a pretty large gap of AAA non-sports games for PS4 and Xbox One between Watch Dogs on May 27 and Destiny on September 9, Nintendo could set itself up for a summer that's all about Mario and pals with the Wii U struggling to stay afloat against the competition. A summer release could also set up a holiday bundle including either Smash Bros. or Mario Kart, both of which are definitely system sellers.

This Direct could also just be to announce some new characters on the two systems, which would also be welcome. Here's hoping they decide to announce new characters and a release date.
