As reported by PlayStationLifestyle, the game is being helmed by Creative Assembly and will be coming to both last-gen and current-gen consoles, as well as PC. It is set in a universe where the ultra-rich are living an insane life of luxury, while those who aren't as fortunate are basically trying to rob them from under their noses.

The former Alien Isolation devs posted a short trailer for Hyenas on the game's official YouTube channel, showcasing what the game will look like:

As you can see there, the trailer is just chock full of colors and stylized art that not a lot of games these days have. However, it also showcased a bit of humor that players can expect from Hyenas, as well as the promise of "fighting in zero-G" while stealing a lot of "priceless pop culture loot" from rich people living it up on Mars - as well as opposing teams.

The pop culture loot they're talking about here weren't showed too much, but a Sonic figurine was clearly there - which makes sense since Creative Assembly's parent company is the video game giant Sega.

Creative director Charlie Brewsher shared a few more details about Hyenas with IGN. There, it was revealed that the game will play a bit like Hunt: Showdown mixed with the fast-paced action of Apex Legends. Players (15 people split into five teams of three each) will have to use their abilities well in order to perform heists to steal the aforementioned loot from the vaults of the billionaires.

But Brewsher warns that taking the loot isn't as easy, as the vaults will be having multiple security features including an AI-controlled security force, as well as a bevy of sensors, switches, and gadgets. He claims that this makes the game's environ ment a perfect place for competitive play.

There's no release date for Hyenas so far, but players can now sign up for the playable alpha at playhyenas.com.

More About Hyenas

The game's name practically gives its gameplay loop away. Hyenas in the animal kingdom are thieves and scavengers, and this is what players will do in Creative Assembly's new multiplayer shooter. Here's a brief description of the game world (via Eurogamer):

"In Hyenas, the world is broken... literally. The billionaires have finally made it to Mars, leaving Earth and those tax bills far behind. The zero-gravity tech that powered their journey has shattered our planet, abandoning us in a drifting slum called 'The Taint.' The only thing the rich care for is rare Merch, pop culture swag from the lives we left behind, which they loot from the rubble to furnish their Martian mansions."

Once players are strapped and ready to go, they will attempt to pull off the best heist and escape with "the spiciest haul" of Merch. This they will have to do while evading AI-controlled enemies, but also other people trying to take their stuff and enrich themselves in the process.

The vaults full of Merch are located in what Creative Assembly calls "Plunderships." These ships are reportedly designed to be "a sandbox playground of interlocking systems creating endless opportunities for slick teams to exploit."

They might basically mea that aside from your weapons, your three-person team will also be able to use the environment to your advantage as you try to be the first ones to get to the exit with the biggest Merch haul.

Sounds like a pretty fun time.
