Overwatch Introduces New 'Royal Knight' Skin For Mercy

Overwatch's Mercy Gets New Medieval-Inspired Skin Called 'Royal Knight'

Overwatch 1's days might be numbered as Overwatch 2's release draws near, but that's not stopping the devs from releasing a new skin for popular Support hero Mercy.

The new skin, called Royal Knight, was released to help commemorate the June Joust Overwatch League tournament that occurred last year. According to GameRant, that was the time when the Shanghai Dragons won the top prize of $100,000. The new Mercy skin was crafted in celebration of her heroic characteristics, as per its concept artist Emily Siu.

Here is the announcement tweet for Mercy's Royal Knight skin:

As you can see there, the skin clads the popular healer in metal plate armor with gold accents over a red gambeson and chainmal. Mercy also wears a knight's helmet with a maroon-colored plume, and under it, her hair is cut short in a curly bob that just screams medieval era. To cap things off, her caduceus staff is replaced by a jousting lance with a red and white flag at the end.

The entire outfit looks amazing and would be perfect for the Eichenwalde map, all things considered. It will also be complementary to Brigitte's knight-like Sol skin, as well as basically all of Reinhard's skins (with the exception of something like Gridironhardt).

You can get the skin from the store until August 19th for 200 League Tokens - which you can earn by watching live broadcasts of OWL. Or, if you want, you can get 200 League Tokens in-game for $10 via the store.
Here's a few gameplay videos of the skin in action:

The Mercy Royal Knight skin for Overwatch will be part of the Midseason Madness tournament of the Overwatch League. Whoever wins the tournament, according to the OWL website, will get a team color-specific version of the Royal Knight skin.

One Of The Best Mercy Skins?

The answer to the abovementioned header is a moot point for Overwatch fans all over the world. However, the Royal Knight skin does remind one of another exclusive cosmetic that was released to raise funds for a good cause.

That exclusive skin was the so-called "Pink Mercy" skin, which was sold for $15 a pop back in 2018. Normally, people would hate that the skin even costs money, but all of the proceeds from its sales ($12.7 million US in total) went to charitable institutions tackling breast cancer, reports CNET. As such, anybody who you saw equip Mercy with the skin effectively contributed $15 each for charity, which is a very noble thing to do.

Now, the Royal Knight skin can technically be acquired without paying for it. You can get it by earning OWL Tokens, five of which you get for watching an hour of a League game (via Battle.net). That's not so bad, right?
