Dataminers May Have Uncovered Diablo 4’s New Class

Blizzard is set to release Diablo 4's first expansion, Vessel of Hatred, at the tail-end of next year with an entirely new class. Despite the company's refusal to divulge more information, some dedicated dataminers may have uncovered the name of the upcoming class.

Fans of the game should not expect familiar classes like the Paladin or the Witch Doctor in the Vessel of Hatred expansion. Instead, they will be looking forward to an entirely new class never before seen in the Diablo franchise.

Brent Gibson, associate game director for Diablo 4, stated in an interview that the development team wanted to bring something new to the table. "So we've made the decision to go with something new. And so that that's kind of the heart of where we're at," Gibson said.

New Class Accidentally Leaked?

Blizzard did not disclose any information about the upcoming class during BlizzCon 2023. However, the company may have accidentally sent an internal testing version of the expansion to former Diablo 4 beta testers. This allowed some of the testers to extract data from the game files and the information they got from them was pretty interesting, including the possible name of the new class.

According to the datamined information, Diablo 4's upcoming class is called "The Spiritborn." The Spiritborn uses glaives as their main weapon of choice. This potentially new Diablo 4 class utilizes two different resources; one might be for offense and the other for defense. In addition, the Spiritborn may use "Deities" as a class mechanic.

Being a native of Nahantu, the Spiritborn utilizes some form of earth magic involving the sky and forest. Redditor @Imundus found some interesting skill names from the game files, including Razor Wing, Dreadful Spiders, and Pestilence, to name a few. Perhaps the game's upcoming class has access to elemental skills, as well as the ability to summon minions to aid in the fight against the forces of evil.

Mercenaries

Aside from the Spiritborn, the dataminers have uncovered other interesting information from the test build. One of the most notable is that Mercenaries might be introduced along with the new class once the Vessel of Hatred expansion comes out.

For those who don't know, Mercenaries in the Diablo franchise refers to warriors that players can hire to fight alongside them. If this leaked information is true, players will have no problems dealing with Hell's minions!

It also appears that the Mercenaries might come with a set of unique abilities, making them a more potent warrior than a one-dimensional fighter.

Keep in mind that while these things are quite interesting, they are subject to change in the final version. Just take all of these with a grain of salt.

Season 3

The Vessel of Hatred will not be out until late next year. However, players can turn their attention to Season 3, which will launch sometime in January 2024 when "Season of the Blood" concludes.

There is a reason to be excited for Season 3 because players can engage with a new mechanic called "The Gauntlet." Essentially, it is similar to Diablo III's Challenge Rifts where players enter a dungeon using a pre-made character, with the goal of destroying all enemies within the area as fast as possible. The Gauntlet is a great new way for more competitive players to enjoy Diablo 4

So, what can you say about the information that dataminers have gathered? Are you excited for The Gauntlet once Season 3 launches in January?
