Path of Exile: How to Make a Profit by Running Alva Temple
Do you want to get rich in Path of Exile? There are a lot of popular strategies that you can employ to earn currency in the game, such as farming essences or selling yellow Lifeforce from Sacred Grove. But did you know that there's one thing that you can do to make you earn even more?
In this guide, you will learn how to make a profit by running Temporal Incursions, more popularly known as the Alva Temple.

What is It?

Before anything, Temporal Incursions are a core mechanic in Path of Exile where you visit the past via a portal that is opened by an NPC named Alva Valai. Here, you will find two Vaal Architects that can influence the present depending on who you decide to eliminate. You see, these architects vie for control of a room inside the Temple of Atzoatl. When you murder the right ones, you can force certain rooms to appear in the temple.

That said, while there are many different rooms in the temple, you only need to be concerned with two: "Doryani's Institute" and "Locus of Corruption." These are Tier 3 rooms that are upgraded from Gemcutter's Workshop and Chamber of Corruption, respectively.

Look for Zalatl, Architect of Thaumaturgy if you want to put the Gemcutter's Workshop in the present-day Temple of Atzoatl. Search for Paquate, Architect of Corruption for the Corruption Chamber. You can talk to Alva to see which architects are available before you enter a Temporal Incursion.

Keep in mind that the architects that will appear in an incursion are completely random. So, if you want to upgrade the right rooms, you will have to enter a new map or area until that goal is accomplished.

Now, you're probably wondering why these two rooms are highly sought after. Well, that's because of what these rooms have to offer. The Doryani's Institute allows you to "corrupt" a gem in the hopes of obtaining a Level 21/20% quality gem. On the other hand, the Locus of Corruption grants the ability to "double corrupt" an item for a chance to receive two implicit modifiers. These rooms are "high-risk, high-reward," meaning, there is a relatively good chance that your corruption attempts will fail.

Because of the high failure rate, players are always looking for those who sell temple chronicles that contain these two specific rooms.

How to Make a Profit

To earn currency from Alva Temples, you have to complete 12 Temporal Incursions and hope that you get the desired rooms. To make it easier for you to do that, you have to take certain passives on your Atlas Tree. These are:

  • Contested Development

    • Killing resident architects in your Maps adds their Upgrade Tier to the Surviving Architect's Room

    • Note: Resident Architects are those that can be killed to change the Incursion Room

  • Resource Reallocation

    • Killing non-resident Architects in your Maps has a 40% chance to add an additional Upgrade Tier to the surviving Architect's Room

    • Note: Non-Resident Architects are those that can be killed to upgrade the Incursion Room

  • Artefacts of the Vaal

    • Your Maps will always have four incursions instead of three

  • The Perpetual Search

    • Your Maps have a 4% chance to grant an additional Alva Mission on Completion

    • Note: Alva Missions are available on the Map Device. Choosing this will ensure that Alva will appear on the map

When you have enough atlas skill points, make sure to take Artefacts of the Vaal as soon as you can. That's because this node increases the number of Incursions in your map to four, meaning, you only have to run three maps in order to complete a temple chronicle.

If you don't mind running incursions until you get the two rooms mentioned above, Contested Development and Resource Allocation certainly helps. These two atlas passives aid you in upgrading the base rooms to Doryani's Institute and Locus of Corruption faster.

When you have a completed temple chronicle, you can speak with Alva and "take" that chronicle so that you can sell it to other players. At the time of writing, completed temple chronicles with the said rooms sell for around two to four Divine Orbs.

Aside from taking the right atlas passives, you can speed things up by running the right maps. Some maps that you can use are Cemetery, Strand, Beach, and Dunes due to their simple layouts.

So, will you be employing this particular money-making strategy in Path of Exile?
