Among the many activities that you can do in Stardew Valley, fishing is probably the least of your favorites. I mean, who can blame you? The said activity is deemed by the community as one of the hardest yet most lucrative things you can do in the game, apart from farming, of course.

Now, if you are looking for some tips on how to effectively catch fish in Stardew Valley, then you have come to the right place!

Fishing Basics

Before anything, how exactly do you start fishing in Stardew Valley? On Day 2, you will get your first Fishing Rod when you meet up with Willy at the docks. After that, you can start casting the rod in any body of water in the game. In fact, you can even do so right at the docks!

When you start casting, a bar appears at the top of your character's head. How far you can cast the fishing line depends on whether you time it correctly or not.

Once the bobber lands on the water, you simply have to wait until an exclamation point pops up. After which, you press the "Use" button to engage in the mechanic. At this point, you will be presented with another bar with a fish icon inside and a timer right beside it. The goal here is to make sure that the moving bar stays relatively close to where the fish icon is. Once the timer expires, congratulations! You have successfully captured a fish!

Tips

Now that you know the basics, it is now time to talk about some useful tips. First, where you cast your fishing line is far more important than timing the bar correctly. Look for bodies of water that have visible bubbles that rise to the surface. This indicates that there are plenty of fish in that specific spot.

Another good rule of thumb is that the farther you are from land, the better you are at catching higher-tier fish.

Now, you are probably wondering why this is one of the most despised activities in the game. Well, that is primarily because the fishing bar that dictates whether you will be successful in catching fish or not is relatively small at the beginning. Fortunately, this bar slightly increases in size each time you level up.

In addition, when you have saved up enough gold, don't forget to visit Willy's Shop and purchase the higher-level fishing rods. These fishing rods grant you a better chance at catching the more difficult fish in Stardew Valley, including the Scorpion Carp, Ice Pip, and Lava Eel, to name a few.

So, there you have it! Do you like to fish in Stardew Valley? If so, what was your hardest catch?
