Baldur's Gate 3 to Bring Official Modding to Consoles

Acknowledging the Challenge

Larian Studios Director of Publishing, Michael Douse, took to X to address the ongoing challenges faced by modders. He acknowledged the inconvenience caused by mods breaking with each new patch, emphasizing the development team's commitment to finding a solution. Douse assured the community that a robust, cross-platform plan for mod support is currently in the works and is expected to be released later this year.

In a follow-up tweet, Douse acknowledged the existing system's need for testing and further refinement. He expressed the team's enthusiasm for the upcoming solution while recognizing the frustrations players experience when their mods become incompatible after game updates.

Building Towards Official Mod Support

Senior Community Strategist WombatMedic shared additional details on the studio's plans for official mod support on Discord. WombatMedic acknowledged the inconveniences faced by players due to patches rendering popular mods incompatible. The post outlined Larian Studios' efforts to establish a modding support pipeline, allowing mod authors to release their creations across different platforms.

The studio is collaborating with platform holders to make this vision a reality and is forming a dedicated team to support mod curation. Larian aims to offer modding support for various elements, including classes, UI, customization, spells, and certain assets and game mechanics. Although the task is considerable, the studio hopes to introduce the initial stages of modding support in the next major patch, which is slated for release several months from now.

Despite the absence of official support, Baldur's Gate 3 players are actively using mods to enhance their gaming experience. These mods range from adding new spells, character races, and backgrounds to making UI adjustments and tweaking game mechanics.
