Dead Season Forces Players To Kill Zombies in Unforgiving, Turn-Based Combat in an Infested World

Developer Snail Bite Games is bringing a new zombie-killing game, Dead Season, that has been inspired by previous titles in the genre, such as Left 4 Dead, but lets players fight in unforgiving, turn-based combat similar to a title like XCOM.

The new game will have players take control of a small group of people who are still looking for some way to escape the apocalypse that has befallen mankind. However, the path that players should take is not always clear and that is no immediate plan for survival.

Players will have to scavenge for resources and complete objectives are crucial to staying alive all the while thinking about a way to escape and not engage. The game urges you to think that fighting is a last resort and more often than not ends badly than good.

One of the core systems in Dead Season is its stealth mechanic, which makes noise an enemy for players because it attracts zombies from all around. There can be too much noise, particularly when players are shooting or smashing stuff that they risk triggering a zombie stampede, which then attracts more enemies and makes others stronger, according to PCGamer.

The game had a pre-release demo that was tried out by some players and showed them finding a shotgun in the trunk of a car. However, despite being good at killing zombies at close range, it was also good for another thing, making a lot more noise than pistols.

Using the shotgun to shoot more than one zombie brought in a lot of reinforcements that came from the sewers, making it even more difficult for the player to escape. The game will have a total of 16 single-player missions that are filled to the brim with various types of zombies and other living enemies who are taking the end of the world too kindly.

Stunning Space Battles

The developer said that Dead Season's world is tied together by a "narrative brought to life through motion comics." While the game's demo will not be available to the public in time for Steam's Turn-Based Fest, it will be released soon prior to the official launch, which is expected later this year.

Another upcoming game that is similar to Left 4 Dead is Jump Ship, which is a title by Keepsake Games that is a co-op and could be played by up to four players. It lets players play a cooking minigame that grants a health boost if the timing is right, or starts a minor fire if they don't, said Rock Paper Shotgun.

While the fire itself wouldn't be anything too threatening like a nuclear reactor going haywire, if left unchecked, it could cause more problems later on. Jump Ship takes cues from some other games, including Left 4 Dead, Sea of Thieves, Faster Than Light (FTL), and even Diablo.

The inspiration from Sea of Thieves is that Jump Ship has players tackle the game with three other teammates. The Left 4 Dead part comes in how the game dynamically populates its areas to bring intense PvE combat in space, according to IGN.
