Released on March 28, 2024, Open Roads is developed by the Open Roads Team and published by Annapurna Interactive. It is a 2D interactive fiction that involves both exploration and adventure.

You take on the role of Tess Divine, who goes on a road trip with her mother after they discover a a cache of old notes and letters. These notes and letters provide hints of old family secrets and even lost treasure.

In order to find the answers to their questions, this mother-and-daughter duo need to explore abandoned family properties.

Mother-Daughter Dynamics

Aside from discovering long-lost family secrets and a possible lost treasure, at the heart of Open Roads is the mother-daughter relationship between Tess and her mother Opal. When you play the game, expect a lot of dialogue between the pair as you head towards the different destinations.

Steam Reviews for Open Roads

As of writing, Open Roads has more than 100 user reviews on Steam. These reviews are generally described as "Mostly Positive." 

"The game gave me what I consider the most important when I buy an Annapurna game - a good slice of life story," user Mack Bolan said in a Steam review. "With that said I will recommend it to people looking for that." 

"I recommend the game if you enjoy walking simulators, and I don't mean that as an insult," user BaleenWhale said in a separate review. "This game is a chill time, with great writing, and a pensive, slightly-melancholy, bittersweet tone."
