Wasteland 2 Patch Notes: Patch 5 Reduces Loading Times And Adds More Sound Effects

Wasteland 2 Patch 5 Cuts Down On The Game's Loading Screens

A couple months after release, the developers behind Wasteland 2 are still pumping out patches that clean up the RPG's gameplay. This week, the release of Patch 5 means that Wasteland 2 players will spend less time in loading screens and more time out in the post-apocalyptic setting.

One of the highlights of the new patch is that the developers optimized the storage of the game's random encounter data. This means that the game as a whole will operate more efficiently and, hopefully, cut down on load times. The game's file size should also slim down a bit, good news for anyone with a smaller machine on which storage space is tightly rationed.

Localization additions come into the forefront of the new update. In-game text was cleaned up across languages, and Castilian Spanish support was added for the folks over in Spain. The developers also highlighted Patch 5's addition of more sound effects into the game.

The full patch touches on everything from gameplay to UI to one of the game's endings, and it fixes a metric ton of bugs. If you want to wade through the impressive list of fixes and changes, you can find the full patch notes here.

Wasteland 2 launched worldwide back in September as an official sequel to 1988's Wasteland, a game for the Apple II, Commodore 64 and DOS that served as the inspiration for the original Fallout. Wasteland 2 is now available on Steam for PC, Mac and Linux, though the developers mention in the patch notes for Patch 5 that the game is on its way to other sellers, including GOG.com.
