New Overwatch Characters Unveiled By Blizzard At PAX East: McCree's A Gunslinger, Zarya Is A Social Justice Warrior [VIDEO]

Meet McCree And Zarya, The Gunslinger And SJW Tank From Overwatch

Blizzard unveiled two new characters and a new map for their upcoming Team Fortress-esque title Overwatch - their first original IP in years.

Blackrock Mountain, The Next Hearthstone Adventure Announced At PAX

First up is the obviously Clint Eastwood inspired McCree (or John Marsten from Red Dead Redemption, who is basically The Man With No Name, anyways). McCree is an outlaw who is utilized on the front lines of the assault. Armed with his trusty six-shooter, he can tear down the enemy quickly and efficiently, and his Ultimate Ability - Deadeye - is sure to aid him in all things bullet related and is reminiscent of Nisha's skill in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.

Plus, and I may be mistaken, he has a robot arm, and those are never not cool on any character.

Next up is the wonderful Zarya (Za-rye-ah), a pink haired, muscled-up female soldier who can serve as tank and protection for your team. A former athlete in Russia, she took up arms when her village came under attack, forsaking the life of fame and glory to which she had trained so hard to achieve. Her trade is gravity and physics. Zarya can encase members in impenetrable shield barriers, toss foes together with a gravity bomb (a device similar to the one Starlord uses at the beginning of Guardians of the Galaxy). She's the full package, tough, strong but with a conscience like none other. A true warrior.

Twitter has noticed that Zarya bears a passing resemblance to a certain other warrior. A warrior of the, dare I say, social justice variety? Zoe Quinn. While it is not an exact likeness, you cannot not see it from that point onward. Watch her video at the bottom.

The move - if real - is hardly a surprise. Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime took Gamergate to task a few months back before Blizzcon 2014, asking to "take a stand to reject hate and harassment" and "Let's redouble our efforts to be kind and respectful to one another. And let's remind the world what the gaming community is really all about." You might say that together, we are strong.

Blizzard also showed off a new Payload map, Watchpoint Gibraltar to the gathered masses at PAX East.

Overwatch has no release date set, but you can sign up for your chance to jump in the Beta at the official site.
