Madden NFL 13 And Medal of Honor Game Maker EA Says Frostbite Engine Is Ready For PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720

Frank Gibeau, head of labels at Electronic Arts, admits that EA got off to a bad start with the current generation of game consoles and tells gamers what EA's focus and plans are for the future generations of consoles and why EA is better prepared for this transition in gaming.

In a video interview with Bloomberg, Gibeau claims that at the beginning of the current generation of video game consoles, EA did not have a powerful graphics engine for games.

This lack of preparation set the company back when the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 launched. He said that EA is better prepared this time and those same mistakes will not occur again thanks to EA's Frostbite engine.

"Frankly, we made a couple of mistakes in how we built our technology that was going to build all these games," Gibeau said. "Fortunately, we have a very different approach to technology now with an engine called Frostbite that's tailor-made for next-gen hardware. So we're in really good shape from a technology standpoint, which is where we had our misstep last time."

EA is preparing 3-5 new intellectual properties (IP) while also relying on the company's staple properties like EA Sports.

"We have a much richer and broader set IPs than we did in the last generation," Gibeau said. "EA Sports is there with all of its power, but you also see some really big brands like Battlefield coming on line and we already start 3-5 new intellectual properties that we are going to launch in the first 24 months of the new gen."
