A Record Breaking Quarter for Blizzard Brought by the 'Overwatch' Game

Blizzard Entertainment's multiplayer first-person shooter videogame "Overwatch" recently made headlines when the publisher revealed  that it already earned half a billion dollars for Blizzard in just over two months after it was first released. The new milestone was brought by over 500 million hours spent by gamers playing the game.

In a recent twitter post by game analyst Daniel Ahmad, he said "Overwatch" has been massively received in the Asian region and has since broken the record of Diablo III as the fastest selling PC game in China. Ahmad also said that, this is by far Blizzard's best quarter so far.

The Overwatch game is currently delivering millions in revenue for Blizzard Entertainment. Watch when the launching of "Overwatch World Cup" debuts at the upcoming BlizzCon 2016; imagine how much revenue it will rack up, once the event begins.

Currently, according to the Game Informer, Blizzard Activision normally sets the record at $1.57 billion dollars during this quarter; and that's all of Blizzard's games put together. Knowing how much the "Overwatch" game will contribute on the revenue of Blizzard Entertainment, it won't be long before they double the figure.

Meanwhile, the blueprint of the "Overwatch World Cup" coming at the BlizzCon 2016 has been revealed and it shows how you can support players participating in the tournament during the inaugural period. First, you need to vote for your team after which, the teams will take on  the best-of-three, single-elimination online qualifiers, starting in September.

The Americas will be joined by at least nine countries including United States, Canada and Brazil; Europe with over 35 countries including Sweden, Germany, France, Austria, Belarus Belgium and Bulgaria and the Asia Pacific with 15 participating countries including China, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Meanwhile, "Overwatch" recently announced the Summer Games 2016 wherein, the next three weeks will be filled with "Overwatch" events and competitions.
