"Mass Effect: Paragon Lost," the animated feature film produced by BioWare and FUNimation is now available for DVD and Blu-ray. The animated movie is also available for digital download on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.

The film follows the early career of Alliance Marine, James Vega as he and an Alliance Special Forces squad battle against a Reaper-controlled Collectors. Here is the movie's official synopsis from its webpage:

"Fans of the ground-breaking Mass Effect franchise can't afford to miss this stunning motion picture experience born of an epic collaboration between legendary BioWare and the visionary Production I.G. (Ghost in the Shell, Kill Bill: Vol.1).

Mass Effect: Paragon Lost, prequel to the best-selling Mass Effect 3, follows the early career of Alliance Marine, James Vega (Freddie Prinze Jr.) as he leads an elite Special Forces squad into battle against a mysterious alien threat known as the Collectors. Stationed at a colony in a remote star system, Vega and his troops must protect the colonists from the alien invaders bent on abducting humans for unknown purposes. Outmanned and outgunned, Vega must rally his squad to defend the colony at all costs - even if it means making the ultimate sacrifice."

During Mass Effect 3 it is mentioned that James Vega and his squad were stationed on a colony that was attacked by the Collectors. In the game Vega tells Shepard that he was forced to make a decision about saving the lives of the colonist or gaining valuable Intel about the Collectors for the Alliance.

Ultimately, Vega makes the decision to gather the information at the cost of the colonists. But the evidence becomes useless when Commander Shepard neutralizes the Collector threat during the final events of Mass Effect 2's suicide mission.
