"The Simpsons" is now celebrating its 600th episode since it started airing on television in Dec 1989. Network Fox Broadcasting teams up with Google Spotlight Stories to create the ultimate VR, or virtual reality. Not too many animation shows have reached the success of this eponymous family.
"The Simpsons" VR couch gag will be titled "Planet of the Couches." On Oct 16, its first episode will be available on Google Spotlight Stories. It will be interestingly called "Treehouse of Horror XXVII" For the full VR experience, it is available on Google Cardboard app.
Viewers are taken in for a different ride as they watch "Planet of the Couches" in VR. They will be immersed in the world of "The Simpsons" as they explore multiple view sites that will yield different results. Thanks to the developer Google Spotlight Stories which made the exploration possible.
"The Simpsons" executive producers James L. Brooks, Al Jean, Matt Groening and Matt Selman are happy to be working with Google VR in celebration with their 600th episode. "Planet of the Couches" is reported to be a spoof of "Planet of the Apes" according to a report by Entertainment Weekly. For the television viewers, there will be a 45-second segment and a URL will be supplied.
Fans of "The Simpsons" can visit the site to experience the Google Spotlight Stories and enjoy the "Planet of the Couches" in complete VR. For the audience without the gadget, they can turn their mobile phones into different directions to have a limited version of the VR experience. Fans will receive a Simpsonized version of the cardboard viewer if they are part of the first 25,000 who will sign up at simpsoncardboard.com.
